How Much Does Disney Spend On Fireworks?

How Much Does Disney Spend On Fireworks
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is the world’s largest consumer of fireworks. Disney World is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an 18 month-long “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”. A lot less fireworks and a lot more lasers, lights, and projections.

This past summer, Disney World slowly brought back two of their famous fireworks shows in 2021, but with major changes. (All firework shows were stopped in March 2020 because of Covid.) The World’s Most Magical Celebration features a brand new nighttime fireworks spectacular at Magic Kingdom called ‘Disney Enchantment’ .

We got to see it in December 2021 and while it’s good, it’s no ‘Wishes” or “Happily Ever After”. The ugly floating platforms that are permanently out on the lake. For IllumiNations, they brought the floating barges out every night then returned them after each show.

  1. These platforms are UGLY.
  2. Meanwhile, over at Epcot is “HarmonioUS,” the new nighttime spectacular that “celebrates the role of Disney music in uniting the world”.
  3. This replaced the long-running, beloved “IllumiNations” fireworks and the temporary “Epcot Forever” shows.
  4. We also saw this show last month.

That it’s ‘not great’ is about all we can say about it. Much less fireworks, a lot of projections onto water fans, very similar to the failed and canceled “Rivers of Light” show that was over at DAK. We long for IllumiNations. The total cost of Disney Parks’ fireworks shows is not disclosed, but the nightly ‘Disney Enchantment’ fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom costs approximately $25,000 per night.

  1. It costs significantly less than “Happily Ever After” ($45,000/night) because it features more castle projections, lasers, and surround lighting, including Main Street USA lighting, than actual fireworks.
  2. It’s difficult to say for sure because Disney fireworks have always been so extravagant, but there are now perhaps 30–40% fewer fireworks per show? However, this implies that Magic Kingdom fireworks alone cost between $5 and $8 million per year.

Three of Disney World’s parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios) hosted approximately 2,500 fireworks displays in 2019. Disney’s Animal Kingdom never uses fireworks because it would frighten the animals. Furthermore, there were no fireworks displays at Disney Springs.

However, the amount of fireworks used at DHS during the nightly show in front of the Chinese Theater is now minimal. And the nightly “Fantasmic!” fireworks show has not yet returned. This lower annual WDW fireworks estimate does not include any of the longer fireworks displays that used to occur for 4th of July, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Villains in the Sky at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, or Magic Kingdom New Year’s Eve Fantasy in the Sky, nor the daytime fireworks that are a part of the stage shows performed in front of Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom throughout the day.

Depending on Covid, they should return in 2022. Once upon a time, Disney fireworks displays were spectacular. A rough, conservative estimate for all WDW fireworks in 2022 is $12 million, a significant decrease from the $45 to $50 million annually spent in 2019.

  1. Across the board, Disney continues to reduce its budget, while ticket prices reach all-time highs.
  2. It seems that whenever Disney modifies or expands the fireworks display, the parking fees increase.
  3. We anticipate that parking will soon cost $30 per day.
  4. According to rumor, Disney uses the revenue from all of its parking lots (currently $25 per day) to help pay for the fireworks.

It’s a very long way down! Disney’s 4th of July fireworks display will illuminate the skies above the Magic Kingdom for Halloween. Christmastime fireworks display. There will be no Castle Dream Lights in 2020 or 2021, but we hope they return in 2022! Fantasy in the Sky fireworks display for New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2019.

How much do Disney World fireworks cost to produce?

If you have ever visited Disney World, you are aware that fireworks are an integral part of the evening celebrations at the parks. It is one of our favorite Disney World attractions. I wrote last week that Disney will replace the current “Wishes” evening performance in May with a new one.

  • Before the show ended, my mind was racing with ideas for a Disney vacation.
  • I wondered how much money Disney World spends on fireworks.
  • As I read the article in which I learned about the alterations, I noticed a remark regarding the estimated cost of fireworks: As you most likely already know, the show is performed nightly at Magic Kingdom (barring inclement weather that would prevent the show from being performed).

Disney spends approximately $33,000 per performance to put on the much-anticipated show for the eagerly awaiting guests. If the show or holiday variations of the show were to be performed every night as planned, the annual cost would be slightly more than $12 million.

  1. That is a lot of bang for the buck.
  2. There are comparable shows in all four Disney World theme parks.
  3. Using a conservative estimate of $10 million per park per year to produce a fireworks display yields a total of $40 million for fireworks.
  4. Walt Disney World surpassed 50 million in attendance last year.

According to a rough estimate, each guest is “contributing” just under a dollar to the cost of these fireworks.
