Pete (also known as Peg-Leg Pete, Bad Pete, and Black Pete) is a fictional character created by The Walt Disney Company. Pete, who was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, is typically portrayed as Mickey Mouse’s archenemy in various cartoons and comics.
Initially, he resembled an anthropomorphic bear, but with the introduction of Mickey in 1928, he became a cat. Pete is the longest-running Disney character, having made his debut three years before Mickey Mouse in the film Alice Solved the Puzzle ( 1925 ). In the first year of Mickey Mouse cartoons, Pete was unnamed until 1930, when he was given the moniker “Peg-Leg Pete.” Pete appeared in 67 animated shorts between 1925 and 1954, including the Alice Comedies and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts, as well as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy shorts.
